Mvumi School Trust

Mvumi Secondary School is looking for someone to assist in running the school for a minimum of two years, beginning if possible in July 2009. The successful applicant will probably have bursarial/administrative experience and will become the school's manager, leaving the Headmaster to focus on academic issues.

The brief would be:

• To manage the school's administrative team
• To supervise its finances
• To monitor building programmes and maintenance
• To engage in fund-raising
• To be the first line of contact with Mvumi School Trust

A three-bedroomed house with electricity and running, even hot, water is available. Salary is based on Tanzanian rates, which provide a reasonable living, but it is effectively a volunteer's salary — the job would suit someone with City, school or army experience, preferably with a pension! The Trust will pay for twice-yearly visits back to the UK to enable the Manager to attend Trust meetings. An individual or couple would be equally welcome.

Tanzania is a beautiful country with a settled political situation and friendly, welcoming people. Whilst Mvumi is 40 km from the capital Dodoma, it has good communications and a car is available for work and some travel. Few countries can boast a continent's highest mountain, the world's deepest lake, the second-longest lake in the world, the mystical Zanzibar and game viewing of the quality that the Serengeti, Selous and Ngorogoro areas can provide.
