Sir Stuart Rose in his officeSir Stuart Rose, Mvumi Trustee and very generous benefactor to Mvumi School Trust, has featured widely in the UK media recently. He is Executive Chairman of Marks & Spencer PLC, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary after beginning life as a ‘penny bazaar’.

The Times, for instance, showed a cover photograph of Sir Stuart on its weekend Magazine. Sir Stuart very recently celebrated his own 60th birthday and asked well-wishers to send donations to Mvumi School Trust in lieu of gifts to him.

The relevant article, Mission Control, showing several of Britain's ‘movers and shakers’ from different fields in their offices, begins with Sir Stuart. Prominently displayed in a photograph of Sir Stuart in his office is a shield presented to him by the Mvumi community, when he was made an honorary chief of the Wagogo tribe for his considerable help in building Mvumi Secondary School.

Sir Stuart spent his childhood in Tanzania and says, ‘I have real affection for it’.
