Developments on the Horizon PDF Print E-mail

The content of this section is by its nature speculative and many of these items will depend on our securing funding from our donors. We are not short of ideas for the future. Here are a few of our ideas. If you, dear donors, can provide us with funds, we shall spend your money effectively.

Top of our list is a desire to extend the scholarship scheme beyond the primary schools in Mvumi Mission to the nearby village schools.

Although the state requires that secondary education is taught in English, many students have a poor command of it. We are exploring ways of assisting with the teaching of English in the primary schools in Mvumi Mission and the surrounding villages and by giving extra teaching of English in Form I.

Science EquipmentClass Rooms and Equipment

As the school expands we shall need more class rooms. We shall also need staff houses to encourage teaching staff to take appointments at Mvumi.

We would like to hire or buy a TV satellite dish and television receiver so that students can be exposed to educational TV and world affairs.

And we always need more books—we very much want to expand the library!

One of our main objectives is the provision of a scheme to educate blind and visually impaired students at the school. We propose to construct the necessary buildings and purchase equipment in 2008 to enable the first students to be taken on in 2009. There will be a number of affiliated projects that will follow from this major initiative such as the creation of a radio station.

We are also seeking sponsors to fund the education and board of these students.

Completed! Read more about the ICAP unit.

Amani_Centre.jpgCareer Paths and Vocational Centre

With the growing success of the school at sixth form level, we are turning our thoughts to how we can aid the further educational development and identify suitable career paths for our students. Medicine, teaching, arboriculture and agriculture come to mind. We have applied for a grant for a major tree planting scheme in association with the nearby Amani Centre which can demonstrate what can be achieved in arid conditions.

We have a long-term plan for a vocational centre, which could offer a range of practical skills to our students and possibly to the community.
