Following his appointment the reputation of this co-educational country school increased substantially. A major building programme funded by the Friends of Mvumi Secondary School transformed the facilities. The programme provided boarding accommodation for both girls and boys, an assembly area that doubles as a dining hall, a refurbished science block, library and computer room. A well with electric pump now supplies fresh water. A senior school was opened by the Prime Minister of Tanzania, accompanied by the British High Commissioner and Sir Stuart Rose. Following Richard Morris's retirement in 2006, Mr John Clark, a former Eton College house master on secondment from Eton, was appointed Headmaster. Numbers have increased rapidly. School numbers are now 430 with a senior school of 50. A further extension of boarding places in 2007 now permits 296 to board. A satellite dish has been purchased so that School now has an reliable internet connection. In 2007 the School was greatly honoured by a visit from President Kikwete of Tanzania.
