A new era has begun at Mvumi with the appointment of a Tanzanian head of a Tanzanian school for Tanzanian children. Former Headmaster John Clark and the Trustees of Mvumi School Trust are delighted that Francis Malugu has accepted the post. Mr Malugu was Deputy Head of Mvumi Secondary School so knows its children, staff and requirements well. He is an experienced teacher and examiner, who has spent his working life in schools in the Diocese, and is a man to be respected.
Whilst taking on the mantel of headship Mr Malugu, supported by Mrs Julia Bengough, Sponsorship Co-ordinator, is currently also overseeing the school’s finances, pending the appointment of a full-time Bursar.
Francis Malugu looks forward to building on Mvumi’s now solid reputation as an academic institution of excellence and developing further the lives of young Tanzanians. |

Sir Stuart Rose, Mvumi Trustee and very generous benefactor to Mvumi School Trust, has featured widely in the UK media recently. He is Executive Chairman of Marks & Spencer PLC, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary after beginning life as a ‘penny bazaar’.
The Times, for instance, showed a cover photograph of Sir Stuart on its weekend Magazine. Sir Stuart very recently celebrated his own 60th birthday and asked well-wishers to send donations to Mvumi School Trust in lieu of gifts to him.
The relevant article, Mission Control, showing several of Britain's ‘movers and shakers’ from different fields in their offices, begins with Sir Stuart. Prominently displayed in a photograph of Sir Stuart in his office is a shield presented to him by the Mvumi community, when he was made an honorary chief of the Wagogo tribe for his considerable help in building Mvumi Secondary School.
Sir Stuart spent his childhood in Tanzania and says, ‘I have real affection for it’. |

Mvumi Secondary School is looking for someone to assist in running the school for a minimum of two years, beginning if possible in July 2009. The successful applicant will probably have bursarial/administrative experience and will become the school's manager, leaving the Headmaster to focus on academic issues.

Child and Educational psychologist Catriona Hassall, her mother, Alison, other family members, friends and their churches have raised £4,500 for our newly-opened unit for blind or severely visually impaired students. St John's Church, Eton and Eton Wick and St James' Church, Dorney gave respectively £3,000 and £500 and £1,000 were from other events.
The funds have been applied to a special laptop, linked to an embossing printer, which translates text into Braille, along with additional equipment and supplies.
We and the blind students are so grateful for this wonderful gesture, made through a good deal of hard work. Very sincere thanks to the Hassall family and everyone who contributed. |
