Pelican Post is an exciting new venture, working with partners and with charity Book Aid International, providing a channel for people to send books direct to schools in Africa. The books are in English and culturally apt for African children, many of whom have never had the huge pleasure of seeing shiny, new books. A current pilot project involves 12 schools in 5 countries. We are delighted to receive funding from Hong Kong to purchase a satellite
dish and television so that DCT Mvumi Secondary School can access news and
educational material from world-wide sources. The donor is Sandra d'Auriol,
a Hong Kong based jewellery designer who donates the proceeds of her
business to children and environmental causes. Many thanks, Sandra! |

J O Hambro Investment Management, the highly acclaimed London-based Private Client Wealth Management firm which is part of the Credit Suisse Banking Group, has donated £20,000 to Mvumi School Trust.
This is intended to be the a first instalment. J O Hambro and the Trust intend this to be a long term relationship. In announcing this donation Christopher Rose, a Director of J O Hambro said, “We have chosen to make this donation to help the DCT Mvumi Secondary School in Tanzania following a careful selection process. We were seeking a charity to which our involvement would make a difference and in which our staff could make a real and direct contribution to the charity's future. DCT Mvumi Secondary School is a great success story and we are delighted that we shall now be part of it”. |

The Trust has been awarded a grant of £180,000, of which the largest part will finance the opening of a unit for 50 severely visually impaired students.
This unit, which will be an integral part of the main School will provide boarding accommodation, class rooms and Braille machines with specialised teachers. The Tanzanian Department of Education has agreeed to fund the teaching salaries. |
