Girl ReadingFriends of Mvumi Secondary School was formed by declaration of charitable trust dated 23 March 1999 and first registered with the Charity Commission on the 15 April 1999. The name of the charity was changed to Mvumi School Trust in 2008.

The sole purpose of this charity is to provide funding and support for the teachers and students of DCT Mvumi Secondary School. This school is centered in the rural heartland of the central region of Tanzania. It was established in 1994 by the Anglican Church. The Trust is largely responsible for funding the recent reconstruction of the School. Our sponsorship scheme funds the cost of over 100 student bursaries and we also provide funds for 50 scholarships.

Providing education in Tanzania

Tanzania is a comparatively poor country, which relies heavily on non-government organisations. Under the inspired guidance of Bishop Mhogolo, the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT), of which the DCT Mvumi Secondary School forms part, the Diocese has been active in providing schools, hospitals and other services for the community in the central region. Our charitable trust concentrates on supporting DCT Mvumi Secondary School.

The Trust is run by a small group of volunteers so that our administrative costs are low. However we do take such steps as are necessary to ensure that money donated by the Trust is used wisely and for the purpose for which it is intended.

Since the charity was registered over £1.5m has been raised for the school.

Donations

A number of schools, institutions and many individuals sponsor students or donate funds. The process is straight forward and we shall always acknowledge your correspondence.
