FarmingThe School offers a sound education to 13–20 year olds in a region of subsistence agriculture and little development. As with all secondary schools in Tanzania, fees are required.

Such is the popularity of this School that it attracts students from villages some distance away. Some students are frequently forced to either travel long distances or find lodgings in Mvumi Village, often in inadequate conditions. Some live with adults, some with guardians, others with a housekeeper.

Many students live alone in small rooms in mud-brick huts. Frequently these huts have no electricity, no running water and practically no furniture. They may live alone or with relatives who see no practical benefit in their studying because they have to focus on making a meagre living.

Three local village girls wrote a letter recently, hoping to get a place at the school: read what they had to say.

The aims of the Trust

The aims of the trust have been:

  • to improve the School facilities in general
  • to provide student living accommodation
  • improve the study conditions of day students.

All secondary schools in Tanzania are fee paying: the Trust aims to provide appropriate assistance with education by the award of Scholarships and Bursaries.

45 Rose Scholarships have been awarded to the brightest of the children from the local primary schools. During the last three years the Charity has developed a sponsorship system to assist students with fees and relieve cases of hardship. In total 158 students of the 430 at the School receive assistance with fees.

Allocating money

All monies raised are carefully allocated for best effect, under the Trustees’ guidance, and are used for development of buildings, facilities, curriculum enhancement, basic educational resources for all students and scholarships and bursaries for those from very poor families. There are opportunities to sponsor a named student and, if so desired, maintain a correspondence with that student.

The administrative costs of the Charity are very low and a little generosity can go a long way in rural Tanzania.
